A most unusual Spinning or Humming Top in two parts. The main part measures 3.2" high from bone finial to metal tip with a diameter of 1.9". Very finely made from what looks to be boxwood, but feels a little light for this, with bone and metal. It has been turned into a beautiful shape and the painted bands of burgundy and black paint have been scored to reveal the wood below.
The second part to this top is small, round, of the same design with a hole to one end which fits on to the bone finial of the spinning part. Both parts have small scored bone pillars running around the circumference, designed I think for thread to be wound round and then tugged propelling the top on its way with the second part sitting on top?
