ORANGE LACQUERED MAH-JONG Circa 1920s Fanstastic Box and Tiles |
£650
|
One of the best combination of boxes and tiles we've had in stock. Orange-lacquered box is undamaged apart from the odd scuff. It is complete with 144 good quality bone and split bamboo tiles (no spares), tally sticks, boxed miniature dice and boxed bone circular winds indicators.
Made in Chine in the 1920s for the European export market, it is one of the superior sets, the box measuring 9.25 x 7 x 6" high. Brass mounts to all meeting edges and brass carrying handle. The lid, rather than sliding in or dropping down is simply inserted upwards and then settled downwards into position. Simple, but effective. Quality piece.
