Rare French wooden Horse-Racing Spinning game from 1920s. The Beechwood stem ending in a metal spike for sticking in the ground is surmounted by a free spinning carousel of lithographed cardboard racing horses, all with different numbers. The object was to place bets (coloured counters) on a numbered betting sheet, backing certain horses.
The hole in the middle of the stem was threaded & wound and once the bets had been placed, the thread was then pulled hard, making the carousel spin. When it has stopped spinning the horse deemed to have one is the one nearest the cane of the Charlie Chaplin figure which sits on top. 28" tall by 13" circumerference.
