1920s' BRASS-BOUND, BOXED MAH-JONG

Excellent example of a Chinese-made 1920s Mah-Jong set. Unlike many surviving boxes from this era, the brass ornamentation is in tact, along with the brass drawer pulls. The case has two brass carrying handles. The contents of tiles, tally sticks, wind indicators and dice are complete. The matching tiles (148) are of a high quality the bone section being 0.75% to 0.25% split bamboo. These give a satisfying, heavier feeling in the hand and of course make a bigger 'clunk' when played - Chinese fashion. This, like many sets was made for the European market - hence the Arabic numerals. An excellent example Mah-Jong. Tiles of bone and split bamboo.
